What is Microblading?
Microblading is a technique similar to tattooing used to create beautiful eyebrows by reconstructing, defining, covering gaps, or filling in over-plucked brows. This semi-permanent technique creates subtle, natural-looking brows with delicate strokes that mimic eyebrow hairs.
If you are considering microblading, make sure you know the facts about this aesthetic treatment before you make a final decision on your provider of choice.
What to Know
First of all, eyebrow microblading is a form of permanent makeup. It involves tattooing an organic pigment under the skin that creates a semi-permanent color. This can range from subtle to dramatic depending on your personal preference.
Microblading does have many advantages, including creating the look of full brows if you have thinning or missing brows. It is also a great alternative for people who have allergies or are sensitive to cosmetics. It’s also a very convenient process and will save you time during your morning beauty routine. It allows you to skip daily makeup application and your eyebrows will always look great no matter what you are doing – from working out and sweating to or enjoying a day in the pool.
Though microblading has many advantages, that does not mean that it comes without risks. The risks associated with microblading are very similar to those associated with tattooing. You can expect to experience minor bleeding during the procedure and slight redness and swelling after. Infections or allergic reactions are also possible. The best way to protect yourself is to make sure you go to a reputable aesthetician who maintains all proper certifications in a clean and professional setting.
Another reason to work with a reputable aesthetician is that microblading is difficult to change once it is done. Be sure to work with your aesthetic professional to determine the exact color and shape that you would like during your pre-treatment consultation. After the procedure, it is possible to make some changes – but it is very difficult to remove the pigment.
One thing to keep in mind when scheduling your procedure is that it usually lasts about two hours. However, one of the best things about microblading is that there is no downtime… your new set of brows will be selfie ready right after!
Check out the before and after photos from some of our clients who have enjoyed microblading sessions at SKIN 101:
Although we know it’s difficult, try not to judge the look of your brows until they are completely healed! The healing process is a little different for everyone, and it takes between 25 and 30 days. After 6-8 weeks we recommend a follow up to most of our customers. Be patient during the healing process. Your brows will change and appear different from day to day. Immediately after your procedure, your brows will appear darker and more defined. This will last up to two weeks. Your brows can appear more solid and hair strokes may seem to disappear- this is normal. Give yourself time to adjust to your new brows as they are healing.

Microblading is a two-step process so you will need a touch-up. The first session is used to build shape and gain symmetry. The second session is used to perfect the brows and add additional density. Some clients may need multiple sessions to achieve their desired result. Some skin types may have a harder time retaining pigment and may require additional sessions, especially if you have had your brows previously tattooed and/or have had your brows covered over by scar tissue.
